535 MCM Diesel Locomotive Cable (DLO) is an extra-flexible 2000V single-conductor industrial power cable engineered for heavy feeder runs, main generator leads, and high-vibration industrial power distribution. Constructed with finely stranded tinned copper, heavy-duty EPR insulation, and a pressure-extruded Chlorinated Polyethylene (CPE) jacket, it delivers maximum flexibility, vibration resistance, and chemical protection for demanding 731-amp power circuits.

Dual-rated as Type RHH/RHW-2 (600V and 2000V) under UL 44 and Tray Cable rated (TC) for 1/0 AWG and larger, this cable handles dynamic equipment movement while remaining fully code-compliant for permanent cable tray and raceway installations.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Corrosion-Resistant Tinned Copper: Built with high-strand tinned annealed copper (ASTM B-33/B-172) to prevent conductor oxidation, ensure long-lasting terminations, and provide superior flexibility for pulling through complex tray networks and conduits.

  • Premium EPR Insulation: Thermoset Ethylene Propylene Rubber (EPR) insulation delivers excellent dielectric strength, handling continuous 2000V electrical loads without thermal breakdown, cracking, or softening.

  • Ultra-Rugged CPE Outer Jacket: Heavy-duty Black Chlorinated Polyethylene (CPE) thermosetting compound provides extreme resistance to oil, grease, petrochemical solvents, ozone, weather, and continuous UV exposure.

  • Tray Cable (TC) & Dual-Rated Compliance: Certified as 2kV DLO for flexible machinery leads, dual-rated as 600V/2000V RHH/RHW-2 under UL 44, and rated for Cable Tray (CT) use in sizes 1/0 AWG and larger.

  • Sub-Zero Cold Flexibility: Rated for -40°C low-temperature flexibility, preventing jacket cracking or stiffening during dynamic payouts and cold-weather pulls.

  • Code-Compliant Industrial Build: Preferred by electrical contractors, utility solar EPCs, and plant engineers requiring dual UL 44 RHH/RHW-2 ratings, Cable Tray (CT) approvals, and MSHA flame compliance.

  • Custom Cut-to-Length: Wire America supplies 535 MCM DLO cable cut by the foot with zero cut fees, saving you material waste and jobsite prep time.

535 MCM Diesel Locomotive Cable (DLO) is a flexible 2000V single-conductor power cable engineered for high-amperage, high-vibration industrial applications. Common uses include main generator output leads, utility solar DC feeder trunks, offshore drilling rig power skids, heavy mining machinery, and marine propulsion feeds where standard rigid MCM wire is difficult to bend.

Single conductor 535 MCM DLO cable has a maximum continuous ampacity rating of 731 Amps in free air (based on a 90°C conductor temperature and 30°C ambient per NEC Table 310.17). Standard NEC derating factors apply when grouping conductors inside conduit or cable trays.

535 MCM DLO cable utilizes 1325 strands of 24 AWG (1325/#24) tinned annealed copper. This extra-fine stranding profile gives the cable superior flexibility and tight bending radii without work-hardening or strand failure.

Yes. 535 MCM DLO cable is dual-rated as Type RHH/RHW-2 under UL 44 (600V and 2000V) and c(UL) RW90 (1kV). This dual-rating allows it to be installed as permanent code-compliant wire in approved raceways and conduits.

Per manufacturer specifications, the minimum bend radius for 535 MCM DLO is 4 times the overall diameter (4 x OD) for fixed installations and 6 times the overall diameter (6 x OD) for flexible applications. Based on its nominal outer diameter of 1.220 inches, the actual minimum bend radius is 4.88 inches for fixed bends and 7.32 inches for flexible routing.

Yes. It features a heavy-duty thermoset Chlorinated Polyethylene (CPE) jacket rated for -40°C extreme sub-zero cold flexibility. It is fully resistant to UV sunlight, ozone, moisture, oil, grease, and aggressive solvents.

Because DLO cable uses flexible fine-strand tinned copper, standard mechanical set-screw lugs designed for stiff commercial building wire can shear individual strands. It is strongly recommended to use high-strand compression lugs or wire ferrules to ensure full strand containment, a secure crimp, and minimal contact resistance.

Wire America supplies a complete inventory of Diesel Locomotive Cable (DLO) ranging from 14 AWG up to 1111 MCM. Orders are supplied by the foot with zero cut fees, or shipped on full master reels. Most standard orders are processed and ship same-day or within 1–2 business days to keep your project on schedule.

Our standard DLO supply includes:
