TYPE SHD-GC MINING CABLE

SHD-GC cable is a highly durable and flexible shielded, heavy-duty portable power cable engineered for the toughest mining environments. It includes a crucial ground check (GC) wire for safety, which constantly monitors the grounding system. With individual shielding around each power conductor to combat electromagnetic interference (EMI), this cable is built to withstand extreme conditions like abrasion, impacts, and exposure to harsh chemicals and temperatures, typically powering mobile mining equipment and rated for 2kV or 5kV.

Type SHD-GC Mining Cable

Type SHD-GC is a heavy-duty, medium-voltage portable trailing cable engineered specifically for high-capacity mobile mining equipment, electric shovels, draglines, and sub-surface power distribution. Designed to operate under the absolute worst mechanical and environmental stress, this cable features three flexible stranded tinned copper conductors, thermal-resistant Ethylene Propylene Rubber (EPR) insulation, individual tinned copper/textile shields over each conductor, and two uninsulated grounding conductors paired with one insulated ground-check conductor. Protected by an extra-heavy-duty, flame-retardant Chlorinated Polyethylene (CPE) or Polyurethane (TPU) outer jacket, Type SHD-GC delivers maximum safety, corona resistance, and structural integrity for continuous heavy-equipment power in open-pit mines, underground operations, and quarries.

Installation Note: When deploying Type SHD-GC cable, always maintain strict adherence to manufacturer and MSHA minimum bending radius limits (typically 12x the overall cable diameter) to prevent crushing the internal ground-check wire or damaging the individual conductor braid shields. Always verify the ground-check circuit continuity with a dedicated monitor before energizing high-voltage equipment. When repairing jacket tears or conductor damage, use only MSHA-approved vulcanized or cold-shrink SHD-GC splice kits; standard tape wraps will allow moisture to seep into the composite shielding, triggering ground faults and dangerous frame-voltage hazards.

Key Features
  • Integrated Ground-Check Conductor (GC): Features a dedicated insulated ground-check line that works with monitoring relays to immediately trip circuit breakers if the equipment ground is interrupted.
  • Individual Conductor Shielding (SHD): Each insulated conductor is wrapped in a composite tinned copper and textile braid shield to confine electrical stress, minimize dangerous frame voltages, and reduce internal corona discharge.
  • MSHA Approved & Flame Retardant: Fully certified by the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) for safety, flame propagation resistance, and extreme physical durability in heavy mining zones.
  • High-Dielectric EPR Insulation: 90°C Ethylene Propylene Rubber core provides superior dielectric strength, flexibility, and resistance to thermal overloads, ozone, and electrical tracking.
  • Extreme Mechanical Outer Jacket: Heavy-duty reinforced CPE or TPU outer jacket provides incredible resistance to tearing, crushing, impact, continuous rock dragging, oil, and acidic mine water.
  • High-Flexibility Stranding: Soft-drawn tinned copper conductors with fine-strand rope-lay construction withstand repeated flexing, twisting, and reeling tension on heavy mobile equipment.
Common Applications
  • Electric Shovels & Draglines: Serving as the primary medium-voltage flexible power feed for massive open-pit excavation and earth-moving machinery.
  • Underground Continuous Miners & Loaders: Delivering high-capacity trailing power to mobile extraction equipment operating in tight, abrasive rock tunnels.
  • High-Capacity Dewatering Pumps: Supplying reliable power to heavy submersible drainage pumps operating in acidic pit water and harsh slurry sumps.
  • Pit Power Distribution & Skid Sub-Stations: Connecting mobile pit transformers, switchgear skids, and distribution boxes across expanding quarry sites.
  • Overburden Stripping & Reclaimers: Powering long-distance mobile material-handling conveyors, stackers, and wheel excavators.
  • Ship-to-Shore High-Voltage Power Connections: Supplying heavy shore power to commercial vessels, dredges, and floating drydocks in marine environments requiring flexible high-capacity lines.
  • Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs): Serving as the continuous flexible power tether for massive rotary tunneling shields in civil transit and utility excavation projects.
