While both are rubber-jacketed cords, Type W is engineered for heavy 2000V industrial power, whereas SOOW is limited to 600V. Type W features thicker EPR insulation, a heavier pressure-extruded CPE jacket for severe dragging abuse, and offers larger conductor sizes (up to 500 MCM). SOOW is designed for lighter 600V tools and appliances (typically ending at 2 AWG).

Yes. Single-conductor Type W cable is frequently dual-rated as Type RHH/RHW-2 under UL 44. This dual-rating permits it to operate as a 2000V portable trailing cable AND as a 600V permanent building wire legally installed in cable trays, conduits, and raceways per NEC guidelines. (Note: Multi-conductor Type W is strictly for portable/temporary power).

If your mobile machinery or mining equipment requires continuous ground-relay loop monitoring, you should specify Type G-GC cable.
