This 350 MCM 4-conductor Priority-Plex® assembly is a high-capacity feeder solution specifically color-coded for 277/480V 3-phase, 4-wire systems. By factory-twisting the Brown, Orange, Yellow, and Gray conductors, this system streamlines the installation of high-voltage industrial circuits and eliminates the logistical challenges of managing multiple heavy reels.

Why Choose Priority-Plex® 350 MCM Aluminum Feeder?

At the 350 MCM size, conductors are stiff and heavy, making traditional pulls prone to "wedging" or "jamming" in conduit bends. The Priority-Plex® factory-twist ensures that the bundle stays uniform, reducing the total pulling tension and protecting the integrity of the insulation.

  • High-Voltage Identification: The factory-colored conductors (Brown, Orange, Yellow, Gray) provide permanent phase identification for 480V systems, removing the need for on-site taping and ensuring compliance with color-coding standards.

  • Single-Reel Efficiency: Replaces the need for four separate reels and jack stands. This reduces the footprint of the pull and allows for much faster setup in industrial electrical rooms or substations.

  • XHHW-2 Durability: Features cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation, which is tougher and more heat-resistant than standard THHN, making it ideal for the high-demand environments of industrial feeders.

  • Weight & Cost Savings: AA-8000 series aluminum provides a significant cost advantage over copper and reduces the physical strain on pulling equipment and installation crews.

Technical Specifications: 350 MCM 4C

  • Conductor Size: 350 MCM (kcmil)

  • Number of Conductors: 4 (Brown, Orange, Yellow, Gray)

  • Conductor Material: AA-8000 Series Aluminum Alloy

  • Voltage Rating: 600V

  • Temperature Rating: 90°C (Wet/Dry)

  • Ampacity: 280 Amps (@ 90°C) | 250 Amps (@ 75°C)

  • Configuration: Parallel-Twisted (Priority-Plex®)

Common Applications

  • Industrial Main Feeders: Supplying power to 480V distribution panels and large motor control centers (MCCs).

  • Commercial High-Voltage Services: Primary power for hospitals, large retail centers, and high-rise office buildings.

  • Water Treatment & Pumping: Ideal for powering large 3-phase pumps and industrial mechanical equipment.

  • Data Centers: Efficient high-voltage power distribution for server room infrastructure and industrial cooling.

  • Electric Vehicle (EV) Fast Charging Hubs: Using aluminum 350 MCM allows for a cost-effective installation of large-scale charging "banks" in parking structures or transit hubs where multiple chargers are running simultaneously.

Technical Note: Ensure all terminations are made using AL9CU-rated mechanical or compression connectors. For high-voltage 350 MCM runs, verify that the conduit size is adequate for the twisted bundle diameter per NEC Chapter 9 requirements. Always use an approved antioxidant compound on all aluminum-to-copper or aluminum-to-aluminum connections.

AWG, or American Wire Gauge, is the standard system used primarily in North America to measure the diameter of electrical conductors. This system is critical because a wire's size directly impacts its electrical resistance and how much current (ampacity) it can safely carry. A key principle is that the smaller the AWG number, the larger the wire's diameter; for instance, 12 AWG is thicker and can carry more current than 14 AWG. Sizes beyond 0 AWG are referred to as "aught" (e.g., 1/0, 2/0). Selecting the correct AWG is essential for safe electrical installations, preventing overheating, and minimizing voltage drop.
Voltage drop is the natural reduction in electrical potential that occurs as current travels through a circuit, from the power source to a device. This happens because all wires inherently have resistance, which converts some electrical energy into heat, leading to a loss of voltage. While minor voltage drop is normal, excessive amounts can cause problems like dimming lights, slow or overheating motors, and erratic electronic behavior. It can also lead to higher energy consumption and, in severe cases, create safety hazards due to overheating wires. Key factors influencing voltage drop include the wire's length and thickness (gauge), the amount of current flowing through it, and the quality of electrical connections.
In electrical wiring, amps (amperes) measure the rate of electrical current flow. Think of it as the volume of electricity moving through the wire at any given time. Crucially, every electrical wire has an ampacity rating, which is the maximum current it can safely carry continuously without overheating. Exceeding a wire's ampacity can lead to insulation damage and fire hazards, highlighting why proper wire sizing based on expected amperage is vital for safe electrical systems.
A wire's ampacity, or its safe current-carrying capacity, changes with temperature primarily because of two factors. First, the electrical resistance of copper and aluminum wires increases as they get hotter, causing them to generate more heat when current flows. Second, every wire's insulation has a maximum temperature limit; exceeding this can cause degradation and safety hazards. Therefore, in hotter environments, a wire must carry less current to avoid exceeding its insulation's temperature rating. This ensures the wire remains safe and functional, preventing overheating and potential failures.
We aim to provide authentic, precise images of each wire; however, with various product variations, it can be challenging. In such instances, we focus on showcasing the fundamental design. Always refer to the product specifications rather than relying solely on images.
