PRIORITY-PLEX® ALUMINUM XHHW-2 CABLE

Priority Plex® is a proprietary manufacturing solution designed to revolutionize the way wire is pulled on large-scale projects. Rather than managing multiple reels and manual setups, Priority Plex provides a factory-twisted (plex'd) assembly of aluminum XHHW-2 conductors on a single reel, allowing for a synchronized pull that dramatically reduces labor overhead.

Priority-Plex® Aluminum XHHW-2 Cable is a proprietary manufacturing solution designed for large-scale electrical projects. It features multiple aluminum XHHW-2 conductors that are factory-twisted, or "plex'd," onto a single reel. This innovative design enables a synchronized pull, significantly reducing the labor and time typically required for managing individual conductors.

XHHW-2 is an acronym that describes the cable's insulation properties:

  • X: Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation.
  • HH: High Heat resistance, rated for 90°C (194°F).
  • W: Water resistance.
  • -2: Indicates improved performance, specifically maintaining its 90°C temperature rating in both wet and dry conditions.

PRIORITY-PLEX® cable offers several significant advantages for large projects:

  • Reduced Labor: Factory-twisted conductors allow for a single, synchronized pull, drastically cutting installation time and labor costs.
  • Easier Installation: The unified diameter and slick XLPE insulation reduce pulling tension and eliminate jamming, often removing the need for pulling lubricant.
  • Potential for Smaller Conduit: The plex'd construction can result in a smaller overall cable diameter compared to individual conductors, potentially allowing for smaller conduit sizes for 1/0 AWG and larger.

PRIORITY-PLEX® Aluminum XHHW-2 Cable is primarily used for power distribution in large-scale commercial and industrial projects. Common applications include:

  • Services, feeders, and branch circuit wiring.
  • Industrial lighting and power.
  • Motor connections and HVAC systems.
  • Renewable energy installations.

XHHW-2 insulation, made from cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE), provides excellent thermal and electrical properties. Key characteristics include:

  • Voltage Rating: Typically 600V, but can be rated for 1000V in some applications.
  • Temperature Rating: 90°C (194°F) in both wet and dry locations.
  • Resistance: High resistance to heat, moisture, chemicals, and abrasion.
  • Low Leakage: The cross-linked structure provides excellent resistance to current leakage.

PRIORITY-PLEX® ALUMINUM XHHW-2 CABLE

PRIORITY-PLEX® is a proprietary engineered solution where multiple Aluminum XHHW-2 conductors are paralleled—and optionally plexed (interlocked)—at the factory onto a single delivery reel. This eliminates the need for contractors to set up multiple reel stands or manually parallel wire on the job site. Built with high-grade 8000-series aluminum and protected by a "slick" cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation, this assembly allows for a synchronized, single-reel pull. By moving the complexity of the setup from the field to a controlled manufacturing environment, Priority enables faster, safer, and more profitable installations for large-scale commercial and industrial feeders.

Setup Efficiency: Because the cable is pre-paralleled at the factory, your setup time is reduced to a single reel stand. This not only saves labor but significantly reduces the risk of "cross-over" tangles that can occur when pulling from multiple independent reels.

Conduit Sizing: Because PRIORITY-PLEX® conductors are tightly nested during the manufacturing process, they often occupy a smaller cross-sectional area than wires paralleled in the field. This can provide extra "breathing room" in conduit runs near the maximum fill capacity.

Key Features
  • Factory Paralleling: Multiple conductors (Phases, Neutrals, and Grounds) are twisted together and wound onto a single reel with synchronized tension to ensure an even pull.
  • 8000 Series Aluminum Alloy: Provides the electrical performance of copper with a significant reduction in weight and material cost.
  • Slick-Rated XLPE Insulation: The thermoset insulation is manufactured with a low-friction surface, often eliminating the need for pulling lubricants.
  • 90°C Wet/Dry Rating: XHHW-2 conductors provide superior thermal stability and moisture resistance compared to standard PVC-based wires.
  • Custom Color Coding: Manufactured with full-color jackets (black, red, blue, white - brown, orange, yellow, gray) to meet NEC phase identification requirements without manual taping.
  • Reduced Footprint: Using one reel instead of four or five frees up massive amounts of space in crowded electrical rooms and staging areas.
  • Laser-Printed Sequential Footage: The jacket of every conductor is laser-marked with sequential footage. This allows installers to see exactly how much wire has been pulled into the conduit and exactly how much remains on the reel, preventing "short-pull" disasters.
Common Applications
  • Commercial Building Feeders: The standard for routing power from main switchboards to sub-panels in high-rise offices and retail centers.
  • Data Center Infrastructure: Ideal for the high-density, high-amperage power runs required for server hall distribution.
  • Renewable Energy Projects: Used extensively in solar and wind farms for connecting combiner boxes to inverters.
  • Industrial Plants: Reliable power distribution for manufacturing facilities, refineries, and water treatment plants.
  • Multi-Family Residential: Providing cost-effective service entrances and main feeders for large apartment complexes.
  • EV Charging Infrastructure: With the massive rollout of Level 2 and Level 3 fast chargers, PRIORITY-PLEX® is used to run the heavy feeders from the utility transformer to the charging pedestals, allowing for rapid deployment across large parking lots.
  • Hospital & Healthcare Facilities: Because the XLPE insulation is rugged and the "Plex" setup requires a smaller staging footprint, it is ideal for hospital expansions where installers must work in tight, clean environments without the mess of excessive pulling lubricants or multiple bulky reel stands.
