"The industry standard for high-capacity secondary power distribution. Rated for 600V and designed for both direct burial and conduit applications, the Rust Quadruplex features rugged XLP insulation for superior moisture resistance and long-term durability in the most demanding underground environments."

Why Engineers Choose Rust 250-250-250-3/0 Aluminum URD Cable

The Rust 250 MCM Quadruplex is engineered for large-scale power distribution where high ampacity and cost-efficiency are critical. This 250 MCM Aluminum cable utilizes high-conductivity 1350-H19 aluminum. Its XLPE (Cross-Linked Polyethylene) insulation provides a massive advantage over standard PVC, offering superior resistance to heat, chemicals, and mechanical stress, ensuring your infrastructure remains stable for decades.

  • High-Ampacity Power: Designed for major secondary distribution where smaller gauges would suffer from excessive voltage drop or overheating.

  • Sunlight-Resistant XLPE: Advanced cross-linked polyethylene insulation prevents premature aging caused by UV exposure at termination points.

  • Easy-Identify Neutral: For faster installation and safer maintenance, the 3/0 AWG neutral conductor features three extruded yellow stripes.

  • Direct Burial Ready: Specifically built for the harsh conditions of underground utility distribution; can be installed directly in the earth or within conduit systems.

  • Direct Burial: Approximately 320 Amps

Note: These ratings are based on 90°C conductor temperature and standard ambient conditions. Always consult with a licensed electrical engineer and reference NEC Article 310.15 for project-specific calculations.

URD stands for Underground Residential Distribution. It is a category of electrical cable specifically engineered for direct burial in the earth. Unlike standard indoor wire, URD is built with rugged XLPE (Cross-Linked Polyethylene) insulation that is chemically designed to resist moisture, soil acids, and mechanical pressure without needing a protective outer jacket or conduit.

Yes. 250 MCM Quadruplex is a Type USE-2 cable specifically designed for direct burial. The XLPE insulation is formulated to resist moisture, soil chemicals, and mechanical stress, though conduit is often preferred at this size for added physical protection and ease of future maintenance.

Yes. While designed for underground use, the insulation is UV-rated. This is vital for the portions of the cable that emerge from the ground to enter a meter socket or transformer cabinet.

Absolutely. 250 MCM URD is the industry standard for secondary feeders in apartment complexes and large residential developments. It provides the necessary amperage to feed multiple meter banks from a central utility transformer.

By using a 3/0 neutral instead of a full 250 MCM neutral, the cable becomes slightly smaller, lighter, and more cost-effective. This is ideal for 3-phase systems where the load is relatively balanced, as the neutral only carries the unbalanced portion of the current.

Aluminum URD is the industry standard for underground utility feeds because it is significantly more cost-effective and lighter than copper. At the 250 MCM size, aluminum provides the necessary ampacity for large residential and commercial feeds at a fraction of the cost of copper.

With a nominal OD of 1.81 inches, this cable requires significant space for a safe pull:

  • Minimum Requirement: A 3-inch conduit is generally the code minimum for 40% fill.
  • Recommended: We strongly suggest a 3.5-inch or 4-inch conduit.
At 250 MCM, the cable is extremely heavy and stiff. Using a larger conduit (4-inch) is common practice to minimize pulling tension and prevent insulation damage around bends. Always refer to a conduit fill chart and consult a licensed installer.
