The Belden 5307FE is a multi-conductor shielded cable designed for complex commercial sound, security, and control installations. With nine 18 AWG conductors, it is frequently used for high-density applications such as access control panels, multi-zone paging systems, and building automation where multiple power and signal lines need to be pulled in a single jacket. Its 18-gauge size provides a good balance between signal integrity and power delivery for devices like card readers and keypad controllers.
No. The 5307FE carries a CMR (Riser) rating, which means it is tested to resist the spread of fire in vertical shafts between floors. It is suitable for general in-wall use and riser applications, but it is not approved for use in environmental air plenums. If your project requires the cable to be run in plenum ceilings or air handling spaces, you will need to use the plenum-rated equivalent, Belden 6307FE.
This cable utilizes an overall Beldfoil® shield (aluminum foil-polyester tape) that provides 100% coverage. In a high-conductor-count cable like this, shielding is vital to protect sensitive data signals from external electromagnetic interference (EMI) and to minimize internal crosstalk between the nine conductors. It also includes a tinned copper drain wire to ensure a quick and reliable ground connection for the entire assembly.
Using 18 AWG (American Wire Gauge) provides a higher current-carrying capacity and lower resistance compared to standard 22 AWG "station wire." This makes the 5307FE ideal for powering multiple security devices over a single cable run without experiencing significant voltage drop. The stranded bare copper construction ensures the cable remains flexible enough to navigate conduit bends, even with a high conductor count.
The 5307FE consists of nine stranded bare copper conductors insulated with polypropylene (PP). These are wrapped in the Beldfoil shield and encased in a PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) jacket. Due to the high number of conductors, it has a larger nominal outside diameter of approximately 0.264 inches. The jacket is designed for durability and ease of stripping, ensuring efficient terminations at control panels and junction boxes.
