The Belden 5305FE is a multi-conductor shielded cable designed for commercial control, sound, and security systems. With seven 18 AWG conductors, it is typically used for applications such as access control systems, keypad wiring, and multi-zone audio where multiple signal or power paths are needed in a single run. Its 18-gauge construction makes it robust enough to handle moderate power requirements for devices like magnetic locks or card readers over long distances.
No. The 5305FE is CMR (Riser) rated, which means it is designed for vertical installations in building shafts (risers) and general-purpose in-wall use. It is not approved for use in environmental air plenums (such as the space above a suspended ceiling used for air circulation). For plenum-rated environments, the Belden 6305FE is the required equivalent.
This cable features Belden’s proprietary Beldfoil® shield, an aluminum foil-polyester tape that provides 100% coverage. This shielding is essential for blocking electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI) from distorting audio signals or causing data errors in security systems. A 24 AWG tinned copper drain wire is included to facilitate a quick and reliable ground for the shield.
The seven-conductor configuration allows for high-density wiring, enabling an installer to provide power, ground, and multiple signal lines for a single device or zone with one pull. The 18 AWG (American Wire Gauge) stranded bare copper conductors offer lower electrical resistance than standard 22 AWG wire, significantly reducing voltage drop. This ensures that electronic security components receive the consistent voltage necessary for reliable operation at the end of long cable runs.
The 5305FE is constructed with seven stranded bare copper conductors insulated with polypropylene (PP). The assembly is wrapped in the Beldfoil shield and encased in a durable Gray PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) jacket. It has a nominal outside diameter of approximately 0.228 inches. This relatively slim profile, combined with the flexibility of stranded conductors, makes it easier to navigate through conduit and around tight corners in commercial building structures.
