The Belden 5000FE is a high-performance cable specifically designed for commercial sound, security, and control systems. Its 12 AWG thickness makes it ideal for long-distance speaker runs where voltage drop is a concern, as well as for intercom/PA systems and security control circuits that require a robust conductor and interference protection.
No. The 5000FE is CMR (Riser) rated, which means it is designed for vertical installations between floors (risers) and general-purpose in-wall use. It is not rated for use in environmental air plenums. If your project requires a plenum-rated cable, you should look for the Belden 6000FE equivalent.
This cable features Belden’s patented Beldfoil® shield (aluminum foil-polyester tape). The shield provides 100% coverage to protect your signal from electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI). It also includes a tinned copper drain wire for easy grounding of the shield, which is essential for maintaining clear audio and data signals in electronically "noisy" environments.
The 12 AWG (American Wire Gauge) conductor is significantly thicker than the standard 18 or 22 AWG used in basic security. This larger cross-sectional area provides lower resistance, which reduces signal loss over long distances. This makes it a preferred choice for high-power paging systems or long-run fire alarm and security sensors where maintaining signal integrity is critical.
The cable consists of two stranded bare copper conductors insulated with polypropylene. These are wrapped in the Beldfoil shield and encased in a PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) jacket. It has a nominal outside diameter of approximately 0.260 inches, making it durable yet flexible enough for standard conduit pulls and wall installations.
