4 AWG 3 Conductor Type G-GC 2000V Mining Cable W/ Dual Grounds & Ground Check is engineered for rugged underground and open-pit mining environments. It delivers continuous trailing power to heavy mobile equipment without tearing, cracking, or failing under extreme drag forces. Constructed with three flexible 4 AWG tinned copper conductors (259 stranding), dual #8 AWG grounds, a dedicated #10 AWG ground-check wire, and a nylon-reinforced CPE jacket, it absorbs severe impact, oil, and rock abrasion across operating temperatures from -40°C to +90°C.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Fail-Safe Ground Check Conductor: Features a dedicated yellow PP-insulated #10 AWG ground check wire that integrates with monitoring relays to instantly trip circuit breakers if ground continuity breaks.

  • High-Flex Tinned Copper Stranding: Built with 259 strands of soft-drawn tinned copper for exceptional flexibility, extended flex life, and superior protection against wire fatigue under continuous dragging.

  • Extreme Mechanical Durability: Reinforced with an internal open nylon braid and extra heavy-duty CPE compound to deliver outstanding impact, crush, tear, and severe rock abrasion resistance.

  • All-Weather & Chemical Resistance: Highly resistant to oil, grease, water, ozone, chemicals, and direct sunlight/UV exposure, ensuring reliable performance in harsh outdoor and underground environments.

  • High-Dielectric EPR Insulation: Ethylene-Propylene Rubber (EPR) insulation maintains superior thermal stability, dielectric strength, and flame resistance under continuous 2000V operating loads.

4/3 Type G-GC is a heavy-duty 2000V trailing power cable constructed with three 4 AWG tinned copper circuit conductors, two #8 AWG insulated grounds, and one #10 AWG ground check conductor. Unlike standard Type G cable, Type G-GC includes this dedicated ground check wire to continuously monitor ground circuit integrity. It is specified for mobile and stationary heavy equipment in open-pit and underground mines, high-output pumps, drills, and heavy industrial jobsites.

The ground check conductor connects to ground-monitoring equipment to continuously verify ground circuit integrity. If the grounding path breaks or fails, the ground check system instantly trips the upstream circuit breaker to prevent shock hazards and equipment damage.

Yes. Wire America’s Type G-GC cable carries MSHA Approval (P-7K-268101) and fully complies with ICEA S-75-381 / UL 1650 standards for use in underground mines and surface mining operations.

Extremely resistant. It is built with an extra heavy-duty Chlorinated Polyethylene (CPE) outer jacket reinforced with an internal open nylon braid. This combination absorbs violent physical impacts, dragging forces, and severe rock abrasion without tearing or shearing the inner conductors.

The minimum bend radius is 6 times the cable outer diameter, which is 6.84 inches (6 × 1.14 inches). Following this standard prevents internal conductor fatigue, avoids insulation pinching, and ensures maximum cable flex life when wrapping on equipment reels or navigating tight tray turns.

All three are heavy-duty, flexible 2000V industrial power cables, but they differ in grounding architecture:

  • Type W (Power Only): Contains only the primary power conductors (1-conductor up to 5-conductor). It does not feature separate dedicated ground wires in the valleys between phases.
  • Type G (Power + Symmetrical Grounds): Adds dedicated ground wires laid symmetrically in the interstices between power conductors to balance ground fields.
  • Type G-GC (Power + Grounds + Ground-Check): Keeps the symmetrical ground wires from Type G and adds a dedicated #10 AWG yellow ground-check wire for continuous relay monitoring in hazardous mining environments.

Yes! Wire America supplies all Type G-GC, Type G, and Type SHD-GC Mining Cable by the foot allowing you to buy the exact footage your job site requires. We also supply full bulk master spools for major project orders. Order online or call our technical sales desk directly at (833) 268-8644 for cut lengths, submittal sheets, or bulk reel pricing.
