#2 AWG Copper XHHW-2 Building Wire is a high-performance electrical wire primarily used for power distribution in various applications. It features soft drawn bare copper conductors and robust cross-linked polyethylene (XLP) insulation, designed for durability and safety in demanding environments. This wire is suitable for both wet and dry locations and is dual-rated for 600V or 1000V applications.

The acronym XHHW-2 breaks down the key characteristics of the wire's insulation and performance:

  • X: Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation.
  • HH: High Heat-resistant, indicating it can withstand elevated temperatures.
  • W: Water-resistant, meaning it is suitable for use in wet locations.
  • -2: Denotes an upgraded version with enhanced insulation properties, specifically rated for 90°C in both wet and dry conditions.

This wire is widely used for power distribution in various settings. Common applications include:

  • Services, feeders, and branch circuit wiring as specified in the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Installation in conduit or other recognized raceways.
  • Industrial, commercial, and residential construction projects.
  • Machine tool wiring, appliance, and control circuits.

Yes, #2 AWG XHHW-2 wire is specifically designed and rated for use in both wet and dry locations. Its cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation provides excellent resistance to moisture, allowing for consistent performance at temperatures up to 90°C in either environment.

While XHHW-2 wire is generally suitable for various applications, specifically for cable tray use, only sizes 1/0 AWG and larger are approved. Therefore, #2 AWG XHHW-2 wire is not approved for cable tray use.
