"The industry standard for heavy-duty 120V overhead utility drops, commercial outdoor lighting, and high-demand temporary jobsite power. Engineered for dependable 600V aerial power delivery, this 2-conductor duplex cable features weather-resistant XLP insulation and a high-strength steel-reinforced ACSR neutral messenger built to withstand heavy environmental strain."

Key Features & Benefits: 2-2 Duplex Overhead Service Drop Cable

The 2-2 Chow Duplex Cable is built for high-capacity overhead single-phase 120V secondary power distribution requiring maximum current delivery in a duplex configuration. Designed to span long overhead runs from utility poles to building weatherheads, it provides a stable, sag-resistant solution for heavy-duty overhead power drops, high-amp construction site temp power, and commercial street lighting installations.

By utilizing stranded 1350-H19 series aluminum conductors paired with a heavy-duty ACSR neutral messenger, Chow duplex provides extreme physical tensile strength with lightweight ease of installation. The cross-linked polyethylene (XLP) insulation offers superior protection against sunlight, freezing temperatures, and environmental wear.

  • 600V Aerial Reliability: Rated for continuous 120V aerial service (up to 600V max) at conductor temperatures up to 90°C with XLP insulation.

  • Heavy-Duty ACSR Messenger: Features a 6/1 steel-reinforced ACSR neutral messenger delivering 2,850 lbs of breaking strength to prevent sag and withstand severe ice and wind loads.

  • Sunlight & Weather-Resistant XLP: Heavy-duty black cross-linked polyethylene insulation prevents UV degradation, cracking, and moisture damage in outdoor environments.

  • Cut to Length by the Foot: Order only the exact span length needed for your project, eliminating jobsite waste and unused spools.

2-2 Duplex cable is designed for heavy-duty 120V single-phase aerial power supply. It is primarily used to run high-capacity overhead service drops from utility poles to building weatherheads, power commercial outdoor lighting circuits, and supply temporary power to large jobsite distribution centers.

#2 Chow uses larger #2 AWG aluminum conductors delivering a higher 90°C ampacity rating of 150 Amps and a massive 2,850 lbs breaking strength ACSR messenger. #4 Terrier uses #4 AWG conductors rated for 115 Amps with an 1,860 lbs breaking strength messenger.

No. Duplex cable contains only two conductors (1 insulated phase wire + 1 bare neutral messenger), which powers single 120V circuits. For a 120/240V service drop for a main electrical panel, you will need a 3-conductor Triplex cable with two insulated phase wires and a bare neutral.

No. Duplex service drop wire is engineered strictly for overhead aerial applications. Its XLP insulation is weather- and sunlight-resistant for outdoor exposure, but it is not rated for direct burial or underground conduit installation. For underground service runs, use URD (Underground Residential Distribution) cable or USE-2 wire.

#2 AWG Duplex with XLPE insulation is rated for up to 150 Amps in free-air overhead installations at a 90°C conductor rating. Always consult NEC Table 310.17 / local code requirements and equipment terminal ratings to ensure proper sizing for your project.

Yes! At Wire America, we cut #2 Duplex Overhead Cable to your exact required footage. Simply enter the length you need, and we’ll cut and dispatch it directly to your shop or job-site.
