In 14/3 Bus Drop Cable, the "14" refers to the 14 AWG size of the three primary power phase conductors. The "3" indicates that there are three insulated power conductors inside the assembly (Black, White, Red). Additionally, this cable includes three uninsulated 18 AWG bare copper grounding wires cabled into the assembly for equipment grounding.
Featuring three separate 18 AWG bare copper grounds rather than a single large ground is a key engineering trait of bus drop cable.
