Why Professionals Choose This 14/2 FPLP NYC Approved Cable:

  • LL39 Compliance Guaranteed: Printed with the mandatory NYC-certified legend to ensure immediate approval by DOB electrical inspectors.

  • Maximum Power Delivery: The 14-gauge solid copper construction is designed to overcome voltage drop on massive high-rise runs, ensuring every strobe flashes in sync.

  • 200°C FEP Construction: Featuring Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene (FEP) insulation and jacketing, this cable provides a critical safety margin that standard PVC plenum wires cannot match.

  • Fast-Strip Unshielded Design: Without the extra foil layer, this 14/2 pair is faster to strip and terminate, significantly reducing labor time on projects with hundreds of device connections.

  • Plenum Rated (FPLP): UL-listed for installation in air-handling spaces and high-rise plenums without requiring additional conduit.

Installer’s Note:

"When your NYC high-rise project calls for long-distance notification loops, the 14/2 Unshielded 200°C FPLP NYC cable is the most reliable tool in your van. By utilizing the lower resistance of 14-gauge copper and the extreme thermal stability of an LL39-certified FEP jacket, you’re guaranteeing that your horns and strobes perform at peak output, even at the very end of a 500-foot run."

New York City requires fire alarm cables to meet specific standards beyond standard NEC rules, specifically Local Law 39 (LL39) and Local Law 5. This means the cable must feature specialized Fluoropolymer insulation (like FEP) that is strictly flame-retardant and low-smoke. These cables carry a high temperature rating (often 200°C), providing a critical safety margin for high-rise life safety systems that standard fire wire cannot match.

Unshielded: Ideal for standard notification appliance circuits (NACs), speaker circuits, and pull stations where electromagnetic interference (EMI) is not a concern. It is more flexible and faster to terminate.

Shielded: Required for data communication links (SLC loops) or installations near high-voltage lines, elevator motors, or heavy fluorescent lighting to prevent signal interference and "nuisance alarms."

14/2 Unshielded FPLP cable is the "Heavy-Duty" choice for NYC life-safety systems, typically used for:

  • High-Ampacity Notification Circuits (NACs): Powering large banks of synchronized strobes and horns. The 14 AWG core is designed to deliver full power to the very last device on the circuit.
  • Long-Distance Speaker Circuits: The preferred standard for voice evacuation systems in skyscrapers to maintain audio intelligibility across 40+ floors.
  • Booster Power Supplies: Used to connect main Fire Alarm Control Panels (FACP) to remote power supplies throughout a large facility.
  • Critical Heat Zones: Perfect for mechanical rooms or vertical shafts where temperatures can rise, thanks to the robust 200°C FEP jacket.

Important Note: Consult Your Licensed NYC Electrician
While our cables are NYC Approved and manufactured to meet Local Law 39 standards, fire alarm requirements can vary based on your specific building type, occupancy, and the latest FDNY bulletins.

NYC Approved FPLP (Plenum): Must be used in "plenum" spaces (areas used for air circulation). They feature low-smoke, high-fire-resistance jackets.

NYC Approved FPLR (Riser): Used for vertical runs between floors.

Standard Practice: In NYC commercial construction, engineers almost always specify FPLP (Plenum) even for non-plenum areas to ensure maximum system survivability and compliance with Local Law 39.

It almost always comes down to Voltage Drop and Line Loss. In NYC high-rises, wire runs can span hundreds of feet. 18 AWG or 16 AWG may lose too much power over those distances, causing strobes to dim or speakers to fail. 14 AWG provides the lowest resistance, ensuring your system passes the FDNY functional test on the first pull.

Important Note: Consult Your Licensed NYC Electrician
While our cables are NYC Approved and manufactured to meet Local Law 39 standards, fire alarm requirements can vary based on your specific building type, occupancy, and the latest FDNY bulletins.

Yes. This is an FPLP (Fire Power-Limited Plenum) rated cable. It is UL-listed for installation in air-handling spaces, drop ceilings, and raised floors without the need for conduit, significantly reducing labor costs on NYC commercial projects.

While standard for skyscrapers, this high-spec cable is also the go-to for Hospitals, Schools, and Industrial Facilities where "Maximum Survivability" is mandated by the project engineer to meet Local Law 39 compliance.

⚠️ Pro Note: Consult Your Licensed NYC Electrician
NYC fire codes are among the strictest in the world. We always recommend verifying your wire schedule with your Licensed Master Electrician or Fire Alarm Designer to ensure your gauge and conductor count meet the specific requirements of your building's occupancy and height.
