Yes! The cable features a heavy-duty integral PVC jacket engineered specifically for direct earth burial. It isolates the copper conductors from moisture, soil chemicals, and rot without needing protective conduit pipe.
Under National Electrical Code (NEC Article 411) guidelines for low-voltage lighting systems operating at 30V or less, landscape wire typically needs to be buried at least 6 inches deep in soil or mulch to protect it from lawn mowers, aerators, and gardening tools.
To avoid excessive voltage drop and fixture dimming, standard 14 AWG landscape wire is typically recommended for total run lengths up to 100 feet (assuming a standard LED load under 100 Watts on a 12V–15V tap). For longer runs or heavier wattage loads, stepping up to 12 AWG or 10 AWG wire is recommended.
14/2 landscape cable features an integral flat parallel design where one conductor has smooth outer PVC and the other has raised surface ridges molded into the jacket. These ridges allow installers to easily identify and match positive/negative or hot/common legs across all fixtures.
