This cable features three 1/0 insulated aluminum phase conductors and one 4 AWG aluminum ground, wrapped in interlocked armor and sealed with a heavy-duty PVC outer jacket. It is engineered for heavy feeder runs, 100A–125A subpanels, commercial service entrances, industrial power distribution, and outdoor equipment feeds that require physical protection against moisture, soil, and impact.
Standard aluminum metal clad (MC) armor cannot be buried without a PVC outer jacket due to galvanic corrosion and soil degradation. While interlocking aluminum armor provides physical defense against rocks and shovels, bare aluminum deteriorates rapidly when in direct contact with wet soil, acidic ground chemistry, or raw concrete. The extruded, sunlight-resistant PVC jacket forms an impermeable waterproof seal that isolates the metal armor, ensuring long-term underground performance.
You must use UL-listed wet-location / direct-burial MC fittings (often called jacketed MC connectors or liquid-tight MC fittings). Standard indoor squeeze connectors cannot be used because they do not form a watertight seal around the outer PVC jacket.
Under National Electrical Code (NEC Table 310.16) guidelines, 1/0 AWG aluminum cable is rated for 120 Amps at standard 75°C terminal ratings (100 Amps at 60°C and 135 Amps at 90°C).
Because 120A is not a standard circuit breaker size, NEC 240.4(B) allows this cable to be protected by a 125 Amp breaker for standard feeder applications. This makes 1/0-1/0-1/0-4 aluminum an ideal, cost-effective choice for 100A to 125A subpanels, residential service entrances, and commercial feeder runs.
**Always consult with a licensed electrician or local building inspector to verify the correct cable size and local code requirements for your specific project. How quickly can I get direct burial mc cable delivered?

While 1/0 AWG is a heavy feeder wire, this cable uses compact stranded aluminum alloy encased in a flexible interlocking metal spiral under the PVC jacket. It is designed to snake through structural framing and trenches much easier than rigid metal pipe. However, you must respect its minimum bend radius of 10.01 inches (calculated as 7x the 1.43-inch diameter over jacket per NEC standards). You should loop it in smooth, sweeping curves rather than forcing a sharp 90-degree bend, which could bind the internal armor or crimp the conductors.
1/0 3C Direct Burial Aluminum MC Cable has an approximate physical net weight of 764 lbs per 1,000 feet (0.764 lbs/ft). The nominal outside diameter over the protective black PVC outer jacket is 1.43 inches (+/- 5%). Knowing these physical dimensions allows installers to select the correct liquid-tight direct-burial connector fittings, evaluate trench width, and calculate spool handling on the jobsite.
