INSULATION:

Premium-grade, color-coded FEP.

Why Professionals Choose 18/4 FPLP Unshielded NYC Approved Cable:

  • LL39 Compliance Guaranteed: Specifically manufactured with the required NYC-certified print legend to ensure your project passes DOB electrical inspections.

  • Space-Saving 4-Conductor Design: Allows for the installation of dual addressable loops or redundant signaling circuits in a single pull, maximizing conduit capacity.

  • 200°C FEP Construction: Built with Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene (FEP) insulation, offering extreme thermal survivability that standard 75°C or 105°C plenum wires cannot match.

  • High-Flexibility 18 AWG: The smaller gauge size makes this cable incredibly easy to navigate through tight bends and crowded junction boxes.

  • Plenum Rated (FPLP): UL-listed for air-handling spaces and high-rise plenums, eliminating the need for conduit in many interior applications.

Installer’s Note:

"When you're dealing with crowded conduits in an NYC retrofit or a dense new build, the 18/4 FPLP NYC Approved Fire Alarm Cable is a lifesaver. It gives you four conductors of Local Law 39 compliant power and signal in a very slim profile. Because it uses a 200°C FEP jacket, you're not just saving space—you're installing a system that can withstand extreme thermal events without the insulation 'gumming up' or failing."

The most searched question regarding this low-voltage collection focuses on why the FDNY and the NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) mandate an extreme 200°C Local Law 39 (LL39) listing. The answer is High-Rise Evacuation Survival and Smoke Prevention. Due to the density of Manhattan and the outer boroughs, high-rise buildings take significantly longer to safely evacuate. Standard fire alarm cables carry a 75°C or 105°C limit and melt quickly under direct flame stress. The LL39 200°C certification guarantees that the premium FEP insulation will survive extreme localized fire spikes, allowing the alarm network to stay active and communicate evacuation paths. Furthermore, FEP produces minimal toxic smoke, preserving breathing conditions in enclosed airflow plenums.

This is the Unshielded version, meaning it does not contain an inner aluminum foil wrap. It is highly flexible, affordable, and ideal for standard notification devices like flashing strobes, sirens, and basic smoke detectors. You would switch to a Shielded cable only if you are running the line directly alongside massive high-voltage building power lines or fluorescent lighting ballasts that could cause electronic static interference (EMI) on addressable digital fire systems.

When supporting this cable across open ceiling areas, city inspectors look closely at routing organization. You cannot lay fire alarm wire directly across the top of ceiling grid panels or tie it to local air duct supports. You should mount dedicated steel J-Hooks or bridal rings every 4 to 5 feet along the path, supporting the red wire bundle neatly in its own independent overhead pathway.

Wire America ships all of our 18/4 Unshielded NYC Approved FPLP Fire Alarm Cable directly from our centralized fulfillment centers throughout the United States. We are able to cut to length, process, and ship your order within 1–2 business days and ship straight to your job site, commercial, or residential property. Most standard orders arrive at your doorstep within 2 to 4 business days, with expedited shipping options available at checkout.
