As the premier solution for ultra-high amperage infrastructure, this 750 MCM Priority-Plex® assembly represents the pinnacle of installation efficiency for massive power loads. By factory-twisting three of these substantial conductors into a single, synchronized unit, this cable effectively tames the logistical complexity and extreme physical resistance inherent in 750 MCM pulls, allowing for a safer, more predictable deployment in heavy industrial environments.

Why Choose 750 MCM 3C Twisted XHHW-2 Aluminum Feeder?

At this scale, manual paralleling is not just labor-intensive—it's a significant safety and equipment risk. The Priority-Plex® system eliminates the "sidewall pressure" and wedging issues that often occur when pulling loose 750 MCM leads. The pre-twisted architecture ensures that the weight is distributed evenly across the pulling head, protecting both your crew and the expensive conduit infrastructure.

  • Heavy-Infrastructure Command: Consolidation into a single twisted unit eliminates the need for massive multi-reel setups, drastically reducing the job site footprint.

  • Precision Phase Layout: Black and Red phase conductors paired with a dedicated White neutral allow for rapid, organized landing in high-voltage switchgear and massive termination cabinets.

  • Maximum Thermal Resilience: The XHHW-2 cross-linked polyethylene (XLP) insulation is engineered to withstand the intense thermal demands and magnetic stresses of 400+ Amp circuits.

  • Superior Weight-to-Conductivity Ratio: Utilizing AA-8000 aluminum makes these massive feeders manageable, offering a significant weight reduction over copper that can be the difference between a successful pull and a snapped rope.

While many contractors prefer to parallel two sets of 350 MCM to achieve high ampacity, 750 MCM Aluminum is the superior choice when conduit space is limited. A single run of 750 MCM can carry significantly more power than a single smaller run, making it the standard for 500A–600A individual feeders. It is the go-to specification for main transformer-to-switchgear connections where high current density is required in a single trench or overhead tray.

A 1,000-foot reel of 750 MCM 3-conductor cable weighs over 2,300 lbs. Managing that much mass during a pull is dangerous if the wires are loose. The Priority-Plex® factory twist binds the three conductors into a single, structurally sound unit. This prevents the "crossover" effect where one heavy conductor slides over another in a bend, which can lead to a crushed jacket or a total blockage. The twist ensures the pulling tension is distributed evenly across the entire aluminum core.

Because 750 MCM is exceptionally thick, it cannot be bent sharply without damaging the internal strands or the XLPE insulation. According to the NEC, the minimum bending radius is typically 8 to 10 times the overall diameter of the cable. For a twisted 3-conductor 750 MCM bundle, this means your pull boxes and conduit elbows must be significantly larger than standard sizes. Using Priority-Plex® helps slightly with flexibility, but proper planning of "sweep" elbows is critical at this gauge.

In high-amperage applications, the skin effect and heat generation are substantial. XHHW-2 uses Cross-Linked Polyethylene (XLPE), which is a "thermoset" material. Unlike the "thermoplastic" PVC used in THHN, XLPE does not soften when heated. This is vital for 750 MCM because it ensures the insulation maintains its full thickness and protective properties even when the cable is running at its maximum 90°C thermal limit in a crowded industrial cable tray.

A 3-conductor 750 MCM twisted bundle has a diameter of roughly 2.4 inches. To stay within the 40% fill limit and ensure a successful pull:

  • Minimum Conduit: A 4-inch conduit is the absolute minimum, though 5-inch is often used for long runs with multiple bends.
  • Pulling Equipment: Manual pulling is impossible at this size. A high-capacity mechanical tugger (6,000–10,000 lbs capacity) is required. The Priority-Plex® twist is especially beneficial here, as it reduces the "surge" or "jerking" motion often felt when pulling large parallel conductors.
