The 5501FE is designed specifically for commercial use in security systems, intercom/PA systems, and sound/audio applications. Because it features a foil shield, it is ideal for environments where electromagnetic interference (EMI) might disrupt the signal.
No. The 5501FE is CMR (Riser) rated. This means it is suitable for vertical runs between floors (risers) but cannot be used in environmental air spaces (plenums). If your project requires a plenum-rated version, you would typically look for the Belden 6501FE.
The 5501FE utilizes Belden’s patented Beldfoil® shield (an aluminum foil-polyester tape).
The 5501FE consists of 3 conductors made of stranded bare copper. It uses 22 AWG (American Wire Gauge) wire, which is the standard "sweet spot" for signal and control applications, balancing flexibility with signal integrity over distance.
The cable is wrapped in a Gray PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) jacket. The nominal outside diameter is approximately 0.142 inches (3.61 mm), making it relatively thin and easy to pull through conduit or tight spaces.
