The Belden 5306FE is a multi-conductor shielded cable designed for commercial sound, security, and control systems. With eight 18 AWG conductors, it is specifically intended for applications requiring multiple signal and power paths, such as complex access control systems, multi-zone intercoms, and building automation controllers. The 18-gauge conductors provide enough current-carrying capacity to power peripheral devices like card readers and door strikes over moderate distances.
No. The 5306FE is CMR (Riser) rated, meaning it is designed for vertical installations in building shafts (risers) and general in-wall use. It is not rated for use in environmental air plenums. If your project requires the cable to be run in a plenum-rated ceiling or air-handling space, you must use the plenum-rated equivalent, Belden 6306FE.
This cable features Belden’s patented Beldfoil® shield, which is an aluminum foil-polyester tape providing 100% coverage. In an 8-conductor cable, this shielding is critical for preventing electromagnetic interference (EMI) from disrupting sensitive data signals and minimizing crosstalk between the internal conductors. A tinned copper drain wire is included to facilitate a quick and reliable ground for the shield.
The 18 AWG (American Wire Gauge) stranded bare copper conductors offer lower electrical resistance compared to standard 22 AWG wire. This allows for reduced voltage drop on power-carrying lines, ensuring that security and audio devices function correctly at the end of longer cable runs. The stranded construction maintains the cable's flexibility, even with the higher conductor count, making it easier to pull through conduit and around bends.
The 5306FE consists of eight stranded bare copper conductors insulated with polypropylene. These are wrapped in the overall Beldfoil shield and encased in a durable Gray PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) jacket. It has a nominal outside diameter of approximately 0.245 inches. The jacket is designed to be easily stripped while providing adequate protection against the physical stresses of professional installation.
