The Belden 5303FE is a multi-conductor shielded cable designed for professional sound, security, and building automation systems. With five 18 AWG conductors, it is commonly used for applications such as PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) camera controls, access control readers that require extra lines for LEDs or buzzers, and multi-zone audio systems. The 18-gauge size ensures that both power and signals can be delivered reliably over longer distances than standard 22 AWG wire.
No. The 5303FE is CMR (Riser) rated, which means it is designed for vertical installations in building shafts (risers) and general-purpose in-wall use. It is not rated for use in environmental air plenums. If your project requires the cable to be run in a plenum-rated ceiling or air-handling space, you must use the plenum-rated equivalent, Belden 6303FE.
This cable features Belden’s patented Beldfoil® shield (aluminum foil-polyester tape), providing 100% coverage. This shielding is essential for protecting sensitive electronic signals from electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI), which can cause signal distortion or system errors. It also includes a 24 AWG tinned copper drain wire to ensure a consistent and easy-to-terminate ground connection.
The 18 AWG (American Wire Gauge) stranded bare copper conductors offer lower electrical resistance, which is vital for preventing voltage drop in power-carrying lines. The 5-conductor configuration provides great versatility, allowing for complex wiring setups—such as power, ground, and three separate signal or data lines—to be pulled in a single jacket, saving time and labor during installation.
The 5303FE is constructed with five stranded bare copper conductors insulated with polypropylene (PP). The assembly is protected by the overall foil shield and encased in a durable PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) jacket. It has a nominal outside diameter of approximately 0.205 inches. This thin, flexible profile makes it easy to pull through conduit and maneuver within tight wall cavities or electrical boxes.
