Its 18 AWG gauge is a standard choice for mid-range runs where maintaining signal integrity and providing adequate power to devices like card readers or motion detectors is essential.
No. The 5301FE carries a CMR (Riser) rating, meaning it is designed for vertical installations in building shafts and general-purpose in-wall use. It has been fire-tested to ensure it does not easily carry a flame between floors, but it does not meet the strict low-smoke and low-flame requirements for environmental air plenums. For installations requiring a plenum rating, you must use the Belden 6301FE.
This cable features Belden’s proprietary Beldfoil® shield, an aluminum foil-polyester tape that provides 100% coverage around the conductors. This shield is critical for blocking electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI) that can cause "hum" in audio or false triggers in security systems. It includes a 24 AWG tinned copper drain wire to ensure a quick and effective ground termination for the shield.
The 18 AWG (American Wire Gauge) stranded bare copper conductors have a larger cross-section, which results in significantly lower electrical resistance. This is vital for reducing voltage drop over long cable runs, ensuring that devices like electric door strikes or high-output speakers receive the power they need to operate reliably. The extra copper also makes the cable more physically robust during the pulling process.
The cable is constructed with three stranded bare copper conductors insulated with polypropylene (PP). The assembly is protected by the overall Beldfoil shield and encased in a durable PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) jacket. It has a nominal outside diameter of approximately 0.172 inches. This slim profile, combined with the flexibility of stranded conductors, allows for easier navigation through conduit and tight wall cavities.
