The Belden 5202FE is a versatile multi-conductor cable used in commercial sound and security environments. Because it contains four 16 AWG conductors, it is commonly used for high-end speaker systems, pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) camera controls, and access control systems that require both power and signal in a single pull. The 16-gauge wire provides a robust path for power while minimizing signal loss over moderate distances.
No. The 5202FE carries a CMR (Riser) rating, which means it is designed for vertical runs between floors and general in-wall applications. It has undergone fire testing to ensure it does not easily carry a flame between floors, but it does not meet the strict low-smoke and low-flame requirements for environmental air plenums. For plenum installations, the Belden 6202FE is the correct alternative.
This cable uses Belden’s patented Beldfoil® shield, consisting of an aluminum foil-polyester tape that provides 100% coverage. In a 4-conductor configuration, shielding is particularly important to prevent "crosstalk" between the internal wires and to block outside electromagnetic interference (EMI). The included tinned copper drain wire allows installers to easily ground the shield, ensuring clean audio and reliable data transmissions.
The 16 AWG size is a "heavy-duty" choice compared to standard 18 or 22 AWG security wire. It allows for significantly higher current capacity and reduced voltage drop, which is essential for powering electronic locks, long-distance LED lighting, or high-output speakers. Having four conductors in one jacket simplifies labor by allowing two separate circuits (or a full-power and data set) to be pulled simultaneously.
The cable is constructed with four stranded bare copper conductors insulated with polypropylene. These are protected by the overall foil shield and encased in a durable Gray PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) jacket. It has a nominal outside diameter of approximately 0.210 inches. The jacket is designed to be easily stripped while providing enough protection for the rigors of being pulled through conduit or wooden studs.
