The Belden 5200FE is a high-quality shielded cable used extensively in commercial sound and security systems. The 16 AWG thickness is ideal for applications that require a balance between power and signal, such as high-output speaker runs, door security hardware (like electric strikes), and long-distance intercom or paging systems where signal loss must be minimized.
No. The 5200FE is CMR (Riser) rated, which means it is designed for vertical installations in building shafts (risers) and general in-wall use. It is not approved for environmental air plenums. If your installation requires routing through a plenum-rated ceiling or air handling space, the Belden 6200FE is the appropriate plenum-rated equivalent.
This cable features Belden’s patented Beldfoil® shield (an aluminum foil-polyester tape) providing 100% coverage. This shielding protects the signal from electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI), which is critical for maintaining clear audio in noisy environments. It also includes a tinned copper drain wire to simplify the process of grounding the shield.
The 16 AWG (American Wire Gauge) stranded bare copper conductors provide lower electrical resistance than standard 18 or 22 AWG wires. This is essential for preventing voltage drop over long distances. In audio applications, it ensures that paging and music systems maintain their volume and clarity, while in security applications, it ensures that devices like magnetic locks receive the consistent power they need to operate.
The cable is constructed with two stranded bare copper conductors insulated with polypropylene. These are protected by the overall foil shield and encased in a Gray PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) jacket. It has a nominal outside diameter of approximately 0.184 inches, making it durable yet flexible enough for easy pulling through conduits or wall cavities.
