This wire is primarily used for power-limited circuits in HVAC systems, connecting thermostats to air conditioning units and heat pumps. It's also suitable for bell and alarm systems, signal systems, doorbells, and remote control units where the voltage does not exceed 150 volts.
A plenum space is an enclosed area within a building used for air circulation, such as above suspended ceilings or under raised floors, often part of HVAC systems. Plenum-rated wire is required because these spaces can rapidly spread fire and toxic smoke. This wire features a special jacket designed to resist flame spread and produce minimal smoke and toxic fumes in a fire, adhering to strict safety codes like UL 910 and NFPA 262.
