"Maximum ampacity for utility-scale primary power—engineered with tree-retardant XLPE and dual-layer water blocking for supreme 35kV grid reliability."
Why Utilities Specify the 1500 MCM 35kV URD
The 1500 MCM 35kV URD cable is the largest standard primary conductor in the underground distribution family. It represents the ultimate limit of current-carrying capacity, designed for massive substation-to-substation interconnects and the most demanding high-voltage industrial projects in the world.
Dual-Layer Water Block Protection: On a conductor of this magnitude, moisture ingress is the greatest threat to system longevity. This cable utilizes specialized water-blocking compounds in the conductor strands and water-swellable agents in the neutral layer to create a permanent longitudinal moisture seal.
Tree-Retardant XLPE (TR-XLPE): Featuring a 345-mil insulation wall, the TR-XLPE is chemically formulated to inhibit the formation of "water trees," ensuring the cable remains electrically stable even under the extreme thermal stress of a 1,500 kcmil load.
1/3 Concentric Neutral: Featuring 30 x #10 AWG annealed bare copper wires, this configuration provides a massive grounded path for fault currents and superior electrical stress control for the highest-load utility systems.
Compact Stranded 1350-H19 Aluminum: The 1500 kcmil core is hard-drawn and compact-stranded to provide maximum tensile strength while maintaining a profile that can be pulled through 6" primary duct banks.
Common 35kV Applications
Primary Substation Interconnects: The main high-capacity "bridge" between utility substations in high-demand metropolitan areas.
Utility-Scale Renewable Collection: The primary trunk line for collecting and transporting power from massive wind farms and solar arrays.
Heavy Industrial Infrastructure: Providing the supreme 35kV primary service for refineries, steel mills, and massive manufacturing campuses.
Technical Specifications
ENGINEERING OVERVIEW: 1500 MCM MAXIMUM-CAPACITY PRIMARY The 1500 MCM 35kV URD cable is optimized for primary distribution applications requiring the highest current density available in the industry. With a massive nominal outer diameter of 2.77", this cable is engineered for the rigors of primary duct installations in environments where reliability is non-negotiable.
APPLICATION: Aluminum Conductor MV-105 35kV water-blocked URD cable is primarily used for primary underground power distribution. It is suitable for use in wet or dry locations, installed in underground ducts or via direct burial.
CONDUCTORS: 1500 MCM (1500 kcmil) Compact or compressed aluminum 1350-H19 in Class B stranding.
CONDUCTOR WATER BLOCK: Interstitial spaces between conductor strands are filled with a water-blocking compound to prevent moisture migration.
INSULATION: TR-XLPE (Tree-Retardant Cross-Linked Polyethylene) in 100% insulation level (345 Mils).
CONCENTRIC NEUTRAL WATER BLOCK: Semi-conducting water-swellable tape over the insulation shield or water-swellable powder between the concentric neutral strands.
