This 10 AWG UL 3173 hook-up wire is a high-performance internal wiring solution built for reliability in demanding thermal and mechanical environments. By utilizing chemically cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation, this wire provides a rugged, "thermoset" jacket that maintains its integrity under high heat, resisting the melting and flowing common with standard thermoplastic wires.

Why Choose 10 AWG UL 3320 Hook-Up Wire?

While the 8 AWG version is designed for higher amperage, the 10 AWG UL 3320 is the ideal choice for applications that require significant power delivery in a more compact profile. It retains the same rugged XLPE insulation system, which is "thermoset"—meaning it won't soften or deform under heat or when being soldered. This wire is specifically engineered for the internal wiring of appliances, motors, and transformers where environmental resistance is a priority.

  • Premium XLPE Insulation: The cross-linked polyethylene jacket offers superior dielectric strength and will not melt or shrink back, even during momentary overloads or high-heat exposure.

  • 90C Thermal Rating: Designed for continuous, stable operation in environments reaching up to 90C (194F).

  • Tinned Copper Conductor: Annealed tinned copper strands provide high electrical conductivity and excellent resistance to corrosion and oxidation.

  • Mechanical Integrity: The insulation is highly resistant to abrasion, cut-through, and crushing, ensuring a long service life in high-vibration industrial cabinets.

  • Chemical & Oil Resistance: Resists common industrial solvents, lubricants, and chemicals, making it suitable for harsh factory floor environments.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Fully meets the requirements for UL Style 3320 and is rated for 600V service.

UL 3320 is engineered for high-reliability internal wiring in appliances and motor leads. Its 90°C thermal rating and durable XLPE insulation make it a preferred choice for control panels, transformers, and switchboard applications where long-term thermal stability is critical.

This 10 AWG hook-up wire is a high-capacity industrial conductor designed for the internal wiring of appliances, motors, and power supplies. The standout feature of UL 3320 is its XLPE (Cross-Linked Polyethylene) insulation combined with a heavy-duty 10-gauge core. This makes it the specific choice for applications requiring up to 30-40 Amps of continuous current where mechanical toughness and resistance to "insulation creep" are required.

In the world of wiring, the lower the number, the thicker the wire. 10 AWG is a "heavy-hitter." It’s the same size used for the most powerful individual circuits in a home, like a water heater or a clothes dryer. In a factory setting, it’s used to carry the main power to large motors or heavy industrial heaters.

It is still high-quality copper, but it has been "Tinned." Think of it like galvanized steel; the silver tin coating acts as a shield that prevents the copper from "rusting" (oxidizing) and turning black over time. This is especially important in machines that get hot, as heat usually makes copper corrode much faster.

This wire uses XLPE, which is like the "heavy-duty" version of plastic. While standard wire insulation (like on a lamp cord) is soft and can be easily nicked with a fingernail, XLPE is chemically toughened. It’s designed to be pulled through metal holes and clamped down into heavy machinery without the insulation getting crushed or flattened out.

Yes! Because 10 AWG handles significant current and the XLPE insulation is so tough, it’s a popular choice for solar battery banks and automotive power runs. It provides a much higher level of safety against "shorts" compared to budget wires with thin, soft insulation.

90°C (194°F) is nearly the temperature of boiling water. This rating means the wire can sit safely in the "hot zone" of an engine or a large power supply without the insulation becoming brittle or melting. It’s designed for 24/7 industrial use where heat buildup is expected.

While both utilize XLPE insulation and are rated for 600V, the main difference is the temperature rating. UL 3320 is rated for 90°C, whereas UL 3173 is typically rated for 125°C. Use UL 3320 for cost-effective performance in standard temperature environments, and step up to UL 3173 only if your application exceeds 90°C.
